Weekly Report

We didn't do a lot this week, but surprisingly we got some work done. So, here's a weekly report for all three boys. It's condensed into one show, but they're separated a bit. Plus, you should be able to tell the difference.

Almost Over

I went to the Urgent Care on Sunday just to confirm that I did indeed have bronchitis! Yuck! Never had it. I figured something must be wrong with me, considering I couldn't speak for 4 days! Still have a bit of a cough, sore throat mostly gone, and my voice is almost back. I do sound a lot worse than I feel, so that's good. I got 3 different kinds of medicine. One is to kill the bacteria, one to dry up my sinuses, and the other is a cough syrup that is supposed to help me sleep. Well, the cough syrup, which cost $40, doesn't do diddly-squat! It doesn't stop the cough and it doesn't help me sleep. I do feel it kind of relaxing my body, but it doesn't make me a bit drowsy. I'm only supposed to use it as needed, but I told hubby that I'm going to use it all up, since we paid so much for it!

We got back down to school on Wednesday. It was rough, not just for me, but for the boys. They've had so much time off it was hard to get back on schedule. Today we're doing much better. 9 year old is actually doing his work without complaining, 6 year old is intent on making as much noise as possible, and 2 year old is building a tower out of my supply boxes. I did manage to make 4 loaves of bread this morning. For once, I think they actually rose quite a bit, too! I just hope I didn't burn the bottoms! I even got a roast in the crockpot! I did forget to add the potatoes, so I might just have to make mashed potatoes instead. I love my crockpot! I just need to use it more. The problem is that 9 year old doesn't like anything from the crockpot. In actuality, he doesn't like any food I make! I'm hoping he'll grow out of that very soon!

Just the Basics Today and Last Week's Report

Since Mom is sick today, the homeschooled boys are doing just the bare minimum. We had Monday off because I wasn't feeling well. Tuesday we did everything but Science. Today, I feel worse, but I really don't want to take another day off, so I decided we'll just do some basics. We're working on English, Math, Spelling, Handwriting, Journal and that's all. I tried to load the weekly report, but I'm guessing it's too big. I'll have to do it another time.

Getting Older

I laughed at my mom when she told me turning 30 was harder than turning 40. What did I know? Apparently nothing! In all actuality turning 30 was fine. But, when I turned 31....whoah!!! Suddenly I felt tired, depressed, and nervous. Sleeping got harder, which is worse since I haven't slept well in ages! My eyes have a hard time staying open past 9pm! All of a sudden, my knees don't want to bend anymore. I look at my children and my jaw drops. How could they be this old already?! Where has the time gone? Why does it have to go quickly?

Is this feeling going to go away? Possibly.

Will it go away soon? Doubtful

Will I ever have a good night's sleep? Definitely not!

So, onto the bright side. I have an amazing husband who works hard every day to provide for us. He takes time out to be with us. Even better...he enjoys being with us. I have four awesome boys. They make me smile everyday. I'm able to homeschool them, so I get more time with them. I have a house over my head, food to eat, clothes to wear, family and friends. The world is at my fingertips. Literally! You can find anything on the computer! I have a pie in the oven. Cherry pie. Mmmmm. Can't wait to munch on that! I can walk. I can see. I can hear. I can talk. I've got blessings coming out of my ears! So, when I'm feeling down or depressed, I do what that wonderful church hymn says to do. "Count your blessings; Name them one by one. Count your blessings; See what God hath done."

If you're having a rough day, go ahead! Count your blessings!

Sharing 2 Year Old's Picture

Here's what my 2 year old did today. I put the glue down and he put everything else down. He absolutely loved it!

Kid Funny

We have thunderstorms moving into the area. 6 year old runs up to see if they're coming our way. I tell him yes. He runs back downstairs and yells, "Get prepared people! It's coming this way!"

Back From Fall Break

We are back from our fall break. Surprisingly, school went quite well. Not much of a fuss from any of the boys.

I'm in the process of changing 9 year old's history. Story of the World 4 is just a little too much for him. Or so I thought. When I told him about our new plans, he asked if we could still read Story of the World for fun. So, I think we will try to do that. He said he likes the stories, but he doesn't like the other work that goes along with it! Which is a little crazy because the same type of work is included in the new plan! But, the readings are shorter in the new plan.

What is the new plan, you might ask? Well, we do history on Mondays, Wednesdays, and sometimes Fridays. On Monday, we'll read 2 pages from the Kingfisher History Encyclopedia, do an outline together, and do a map that coordinates with the study. On Wednesday, we'll read 2 pages from the KHE, he'll do a narrative (probably on the computer, since that boy hates to write!), and do a map. So, he's still doing an outline, narrative and map, but the readings are shorter, so I think that will please him. He'll still have a book to read that somewhat correlates with the time period. On Fridays, we'll do activities from the SOTW guide. So, we're still using SOTW, just in a different way. We'll start this next week. This week he's just doing a little theme unit packet from school express on the Civil War. It's the same thing that 6 year old is doing, so in a way, he's got it easy this week!

Next year will probably be more fun, since we go back to studying the Ancients. I love studying the Ancients. I've already got tons of websites bookmarked and ideas running through my head. I just hope the boys will be as excited as me!
